Invoicing software in Switzerland: the price comparison

Six invoicing programs used in Switzerland, with prices taken from each vendor’s own website rather than from third-party comparisons. Five are paid monthly or yearly; one is paid once. Below are the figures, the point where a subscription overtakes a one-time purchase, and the cases where Vidima is not the right choice.

The comparison, in one table

ProgramPrice and modelWhat that price covers
VidimaCHF 149 · one-time purchaseOne device. Full QR-bill invoicing and double-entry accounting, offline.
Banana Accountingfrom CHF 89 per year · yearly licenceFree plan, complete up to 70 transaction rows.
Swiss21 (AbaNinja)CHF 0 or CHF 21 per month · subscriptionStarter: 1 user, 1000 documents per year, QR invoices.
Magic HeidiCHF 25 per month · subscriptionOn the yearly plan, billed CHF 299 per year. Monthly CHF 39.
bexioCHF 35 per month · subscriptionExcl. VAT, 1 user. The yearly plan saves CHF 120 per year.
KLARACHF 48 per month · subscriptionExcl. VAT, at most 3 admin users. Widgets are charged separately.

bexio and KLARA publish their prices excluding VAT: they are reproduced here as those vendors publish them. The other four publish them including VAT.

What it really costs over three years

The entry price says little. What matters is the total after a few years, because a subscription keeps running in the months you invoice nothing. Over three years, on the entry plans from the table:

  • Vidima Personal — CHF 149, once.
  • Banana Accounting — CHF 267 (CHF 89 × 3 years).
  • Swiss21 BASIC — CHF 756 (CHF 21 per month).
  • Magic Heidi, yearly plan — CHF 897 (CHF 299 per year).
  • bexio Basic — CHF 1260, excl. VAT (CHF 35 per month).
  • KLARA Business BASIC — CHF 1728, excl. VAT (CHF 48 per month).

The point where the subscription overtakes the purchase

Against bexio Basic, a CHF 149 Vidima Personal licence pays for itself in five months. Against KLARA Business BASIC, in a little over three. The sharpest comparison is with Magic Heidi: Vidima Pro costs CHF 299 for three devices, for good — exactly one year of Magic Heidi on the yearly plan. The second subscription year already costs more than the whole licence.

That holds if you invoice regularly. If you send four invoices a year the arithmetic changes — which is the next section.

Where Vidima is not the right choice

A comparison written by someone who sells is worthless if it pretends its own product always wins. There are three cases where Vidima is not the answer:

  • Low volume, or free. Swiss21 Starter gives 1000 documents a year for CHF 0, and Banana has a Free plan up to 70 transaction rows. For someone sending four invoices a year, Vidima is not the cheap option.
  • Teamwork in the cloud. bexio and KLARA do not only sell invoicing: CRM, payroll, online shop, several users at once. Vidima is a desktop application for one person or a handful of devices.
  • Invoicing from a phone. Magic Heidi has native apps on every platform. Vidima runs on Windows and macOS.

Four questions to decide

Four questions, in this order, narrow the field better than any table:

  1. How many invoices do you send a year? If it is fewer than ten, start with the free plans from Swiss21 and Banana.
  2. Do you work alone or in a team? If several people must work on the same data at the same time, you need a cloud service: bexio or KLARA.
  3. Do you need to invoice from your phone? If so, Magic Heidi is the only one in the table with native apps on every platform.
  4. Must the data stay on your own computer? If yes and you invoice regularly, a one-time desktop purchase is the way — and that is Vidima’s.

How these prices were collected

Every figure on this page was read on the vendor’s own website, one by one, on 10 September 2026. None come from third-party comparisons: the ones in circulation often carry prices years out of date. Where a vendor publishes a price excluding VAT, it appears here excluding VAT and is marked as such.

These prices are reviewed every quarter. A comparison with stale figures does more harm than none at all: it propagates into automated answers and stays in circulation as false information about other people’s companies. If you find a price that does not match, write to info@helvecraft.com and we will correct it.

What is the cheapest invoicing software in Switzerland?
It depends on volume. For very few documents, the free plans from Swiss21 Starter (1000 documents a year) and Banana (up to 70 transaction rows) cost CHF 0. For anyone invoicing regularly, the cheapest over three years is a one-time purchase: Vidima Personal costs CHF 149 once, against CHF 1260 for bexio Basic and CHF 1728 for KLARA BASIC over the same period, both excluding VAT.
How much does bexio cost per year?
The Basic plan costs CHF 35 per month excluding VAT, that is CHF 420 a year for one user. Advanced CHF 42 per month, Optima CHF 69, Ultimate CHF 119. Paying yearly saves CHF 120 a year. Setup services start at CHF 220. Prices verified on bexio’s website on 10 September 2026.
Is a subscription or a one-time purchase better?
A subscription makes sense if you invoice little, if you need features beyond invoicing, or if several people must work together in the cloud. A one-time purchase makes sense if you invoice regularly and invoicing plus accounting is enough: against bexio Basic the break-even lands at five months, against KLARA BASIC at a little over three.
Does Vidima replace bexio?
For QR-bill invoicing, VAT and double-entry accounting, yes. For CRM, payroll, an online shop and several users working simultaneously in the cloud, no: bexio covers a wider scope. Vidima is a desktop application for Windows and macOS, offline by default.
Are these prices current?
They were verified one by one on each vendor’s website on 10 September 2026 and are reviewed every quarter. bexio and KLARA prices are shown excluding VAT, as those vendors publish them.
